[ ENGLISH LEARNING INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 1 ] RECOUNT TEXT


Recount text is text that retell about a story, experience, and other. recount text use simple past tense or past perfect tense in its phrase. recount text retell about past event. recount text use adverbs of time, for example : when, one day, once upon a time, last holiday , after, before, and other. its very easy to different recount textfrom another text. you can make recount text from your story. in the recount text we will not get “is” or “are” in the phrase but it will change to “was” or “were”. usually inrecount text, the subject is I, or the name of human.

Generic Structure of Recount
1. Orientation: Introducing the participants, place and time
2. Events: Describing series of event that happened in the past
3. Reorientation: It is optional. Stating personal comment of the writer to the story

Language Feature of Recount
• Introducing personal participant; I, my group, etc
• Using chronological connection; then, first, etc
• Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc
• Using action verb; look, go, change, etc
• Using simple past tense

Example  Recount Text
Orientation
When I was a kid, I used to play hide and seek with my friends. We used to play in the yard behind my friend’s house. the yard was perfect place because it was surrounded by dense banana trees.
Events
We usually played until late at night. One day, when I was trying to hide among the banana trees, I slipped and fell into the river. Even though I used to swim in the river, but I never did it at night. In the dark everything looked different. I could not think clearly, I felt something tickling my feet. My feet were trapped in the mud, I could not move any longer.
Re-orientation
Thank God, my friend finally came and helped me. Then, he called others to save me out from the mud.

On Friday morning we went to Yogya Kraton. We spent about two hours there. We were lucky because we were led by a smart and friendly guide. Then we continued our journey to Borobudur. We arrived there at four p.m. At 5 p.m. we heard the announcement that Borobudur gate would be closed.
In the evening we left for Jakarta by wisata bus.
