A. Passive Form
In passive sentences, the thing receiving the
action is the subject of the sentence and the thing doing the action is
optionally included near the end of the sentence. You can use the passive form
if you think that the thing receiving the action is more important or should be
emphasized. You can also use the passive form if you do not know who is doing
the action or if you do not want to mention who is doing the action.
[Thing
receiving action] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing
action]

Direct
and direct speech
DIRECT SPEECH
Direct speech repeats, or quotes, the exact words
spoken. When we use direct speech in writing, we place the words spoken between
quotation marks (" ") and there is no change in these words. We may
be reporting something that's being said NOW (for example a telephone
conversation), or telling someone later about a previous conversation.
EXAMPLES
She says, "What time will you be home?"
She said, "What time will you be home?"
and I said, "I don't know! "
"There's a fly in my soup!" screamed
Simone.
John said, "There's an elephant outside the
window."
INDIRECT SPEECH
Reported or indirect speech is usually used to talk
about the past, so we normally change the tense of the words spoken. We use
reporting verbs like 'say', 'tell', 'ask', and we may use the word 'that' to
introduce the reported words. Inverted commas are not used.
She said, "I saw him." (direct speech) =
She said that she had seen him. (indirect speech)
'That' may be omitted:
She told him that she was happy. = She told him she was happy.
She told him that she was happy. = She told him she was happy.
'SAY' AND 'TELL'
Use 'say' when there is no indirect object:
He said that he was tired.
He said that he was tired.
Always use 'tell' when you say who was being spoken
to (i.e. with an indirect object):
He told me that he was tired.
He told me that he was tired.
'TALK' AND 'SPEAK'
Use these verbs to describe the action of
communicating:
He talked to us.
She was speaking on the telephone.
He talked to us.
She was speaking on the telephone.
Use these verbs with 'about' to refer to what was
said:
He talked (to us) about his parents.
He talked (to us) about his parents.
No

Tata cara/bertemu berbicara
memberikan beberapa manfaat seperti mendengar langsung pronunciation mereka,
menghampir turis.
Untuk membuka pembicaraan, gunakan
ungkapan-ungkapan berikut:
1.
Excuse me sir/madam/miss, do you mind my talking to you?
2. Excuse me sir/madam/miss, may I speak with you for a while?
2. Excuse me sir/madam/miss, may I speak with you for a while?
Sir
-
Oh, no, not at all!
(artinya dia mau diajak bicara)
- Sorry, I don’t have time! (artinya tidak mau diajak bicara)
- What’s wrong!
- What do you want?
- Sorry, I don’t have time! (artinya tidak mau diajak bicara)
- What’s wrong!
- What do you want?
Jika
menggunakan pembuka no.2, kemungkinan jawabannya antara lain:
-
No, sorry. (artinya
tidak mau diajak bicara, mungkin sibuk)
- Yeah/Yes/Sure! (artinya mau diajak bicara)
- (jawaban-jawaban seperti di atas)
- Yeah/Yes/Sure! (artinya mau diajak bicara)
- (jawaban-jawaban seperti di atas)
Selanjutnya,
jika ternyata mereka menolak diajak bicara Anda bisa menjawab:
-
Oh, that’s okay, thanks! (terus ditinggal aja, jangan dipaksa untuk meladeni Anda)
Kalau
sedang ingin mempraktikkan bahasa Inggris Anda:
-
Thanks/Thank you so much. Actually, I’m an English learner/English student and
I want to practice my English.
Jika
saat membuka pembicaraan Anda mendapat jawaban “what’s wrong” atau “what do you want“, Anda bisa langsung menjawab:
-
Actually, I’m an English learner and I just want to practice my English.
– Actually, here I’am practicing my English .
– Actually, here I’am practicing my English .
Jika
Memulai percakapan
Setelah
menjelaskan bahwa Anda ingin mempraktikkan bahasa Inggris Anda, biasanya mereka
hanya mengangguk. Selanjutnya tanyakanlah pertanyaan-pertanyaan dasar:
Where
do you come from?
How long have you been in Indonesia?
Have you ever been here before?
What places have visited in Indonesia?
What’s your impression about Indonesian people?
What do you think about the weather here, is it different from the weather in your country?
How do you like the food here?
With whom did you come here?
Where will you go after here?
How long have you been in Indonesia?
Have you ever been here before?
What places have visited in Indonesia?
What’s your impression about Indonesian people?
What do you think about the weather here, is it different from the weather in your country?
How do you like the food here?
With whom did you come here?
Where will you go after here?
Anda
-
Can we take picture together?
– May I take picture with you?
– May I take picture with you?
Kalau
-
Okay Sir/Madam/Miss, I’ve got to go, now. It was nice to meet you. Thank you
very much for your time. Have a nice trip and Goodbye/See you next time!
