2 Situation : Sandra tells her problem to Eve
Sandra :
Eve, can I talk to you? I really need some advice about a problem I have.
Eve :
Go ahead. Tell me your problem.
Sandra :
My friend is always asking me to copy my hmework. I want to tell her to do her
own assignments but I’m afraid she will angry with me
Eve :
I think you shouldn’t always lend your homework all the time. You can help her
to do the assignments until she can do them indepedently.
ACTIVITY 1. Read the following dialogues. Underline the
expressions used.
Danu is in Mrs Dewi's room. She is giving advice to
Danu.
Mrs Dewi : Danu,
Mrs Etty told me that you didn't attend her lesson six times. Is that right?
Danu :
Yes, Mam.
Mrs Dewi : Why
didn't you study with her properly? She is a qualified teacher here. Many
students like her very much because she is also a patient teacher.
Danu :
Actually I like her lessons. But the way she explains is so fast that I cannot follow
the lesson.
Mrs Dewi : You
should ask her to explain the lesson more slowly.
Danu : But
I'm ashamed to tell her.
Mrs Dewi : Alright,
I'll accompany you to talk to her.
Danu :
Thank you, Ma'am.

B. GIVING WARNINGS
A
warning means giving information of the danger or unexpected situation that my
happen if a person does something. He/she wants that person will be more
careful. When we see a snake on a tree, for example, we may shout our friends
"Watch out" It means we inform them be careful and to pay attention
to the snake.
Here are other examples of
expressing warning.
Example :
- Your little sister wants to cross the busy street. Then you warn her to cross carefully by saying,"Mind the traffic!"
- There is a long wire connected to the computer. At present you are using your computer and your little brother is playing a toy car behind the computer. You see what he is doing and warm,"Dont touch the wire!"
- There is blackout in the neighbourhood. A father lights a lantern and puts it on the table. His son is amazed and plays with the lantern. When the father sees, he warns,"Keep away from the fire!" or "Don't play with the lantern!"
- You are walking on the pavement with your friends in the rain. Suddenly you see a big hole on the pavement. You want your friends by pointing at the hole and saying,"Look out!"
- In the zoo, many cages of wild animals are applied with a warning board saying,"Beware of the wild animals!"
ACTIVITY 3. Match these warnings
with the situations given.
ACTIVITY 4. Supply the warnings for the following situations.
1. You have just mopped the floor. Your mother is
walking on the wet floor.
2. The bus driver is driving the bus in high
speed. All the passengers are frightened.
3. Your maid is cleaning an expensive Chinese
porcelin ceramic.
ACTIVITY 5. Read the following dialogues
A man is stopped by a policewoman because he violated a
traffic regulation.
Policewoman : Good morning, Sir. May I see your driving
licence?

Policewoman : You just broke a traffic regulation on Siliwangi
Street.

Policewoman : No. But you didn't read the traffic sign
